Consider who needs ongoing access and who needs access only for a visit. Supported user codes and access-management features vary by product and platform, so the exact behavior should be established during selection.

Understand batteries, alerts, and backup entry
Ask how the lock is powered, how low power is reported, and what manufacturer-supported entry method remains available if ordinary controls cannot be used. Include maintenance access and the practicalities of a home that is not occupied every day.
Discuss these points before relying on remote entry. A convenient app does not remove the need for a clear access and recovery plan.
